Beth Farber is a stand-up comedian who's performed at comedy clubs, charity events and private parties all over New York City. Prior to devoting her time and energy exclusively to stand-up, Beth was a successful trial lawyer representing indigent criminal defendants for thirty years in both Baltimore City and New York City. These experiences provide just one source for her black humor. Beth is a native of Brooklyn, back in the day when it was considered the most dangerous and downtrodden place in America, and before the label "Brooklyn" added value to merchandise. She is the mother of three adult children, a daughter who is a feminist rock-star and life coach, and two sons, one who is a former White House aide to President Obama, social entrepreneur, and investor and another who is an author and antiquarian. She graduated from Brooklyn Friends School, Yale University and Georgetown Law School. After years as a lawyer, wife and mother, Beth is ready to break through the bars of the bourgeoisie patriarchy.
Beth brings to her comedy all the experiences of her life: the many years pounding the streets of Baltimore and New York investigating and defending criminals, and observing and fighting our racist and classist criminal justice system. She takes inspiration from the long and rich tradition of Jewish humor which embraces the outsider and disrupter. As Lenny Bruce said, "Society is sick, and I'm the doctor." Beth has always loved the work of Mel Brooks, Monty Python, Richard Pryor, and Chris Rock. Right now she is a big fan of Ali Wong, and particularly enjoys her views on myth of motherhood.
Currently, Beth is working on new material that blends her unique perspective on criminals and the criminal justice system with her views of being a mother, an older women in America, and a person deeply worried about the future of our country. Not very funny sounding, but trust me, funny in person.
